Dr. Horst Düster

For more than 30 years Dr. Horst Düster has been working with Free Open Source software developing solutions for GIS and Web GIS applications. From 1999 to 2012 he was the GIS coordinator of the canton of Solothurn, and from 2004 to 2012 he led the Office of geographic information in the role of deputy geoinformation minister. As part of these positions, he had a decisive role in the realization of the Cantonal Spatial Data Infrastructure (SO! GIS). SO! GIS is based on 100% open source software and supplies more than 3,500 employees of the cantonal administration with GIS functionality for their daily work. SO! GIS follows the concept of distributed service-oriented architectures. As a recognized expert on spatial data infrastructures he taught distributed spatial data infrastructures at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. In the spring of 2012, he joined Sourcepole AG as a co-owner.

Being a very active participant in the various open source communities, he has an extensive, international network of contacts.

The focus of his work at Sourcepole is business management, application and application modules development, project management and SDI consulting and training.
